Cheers Big Ears

Just to prove I'm alive, A sketchbook doodle I coloured with a bit of watercolour and colored pencil.

Been sick and in bed recently so my comic has stalled a bit. Starting it up again now though, working on the 14th page of 16.

A Goon

I've been working pretty hard on my comic so as a "reward" I did some doodling for fun and came up with this Goonish character.

In The Grip of The Cloud of Misery

A sketchbook drawing I drew while feeling miserable and then later inked and watercoloured.

Wee blue haired fellow

A little man I drew to break in a new nib.

Still working on my comic, so far 6 pages pencilled and 5 pages inked. Not even halfway through the planned 16 pages! Eeesh!

Some sketchbook pages

A couple of sketchbook drawings I've done recently. When I'm drawing I like to have awful TV on in the background as long as it's not too distracting. This is why I ended up drawing Guy Fieri. This is a real quote.

This is all I have at the moment as I've been busy with a new 16 page comic Fisherman. Here is a peek at my carefully taped and scribbled thumbnails:

What I'd Do With a Million Pounds

A drawing I did for Offlife comics twitter challenge #quickdraw. I had one hour to do a cartoon on "What I'd do With a Million Pounds".

The Quest

I fancied doing a big watercolour illustration so here it is. It's all about my struggle with RSI and the quest towards creative freedom! And it's always funny whenever you mix dramatic lighting with cartoonish characters.

W is for Robert Wyatt

Once again skipping all the unimportant letters, here is my W Alphaband. Robert Wyatt is an english musician whose music is quite hard to describe. Slightly proggy, a bit jazzy and experimental but also with good melodies and catchy hooks. One of my favourite albums is Rock Bottom which features some great songs and even a cameo from the masterful Ivor Cutler.

S is for Sparks

Yup it's another Alphabands entry. Sparks are Ron & Russell Mael a duo who have encompassed a lot of different styles over the years. This drawing is inspired partly by their big hit This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us, although I painted it while listening to The No 1 Song in Heaven lp, which I heartily recommend.

R is for Alasdair Roberts

Another Alphabands entry. Alasdair Roberts is a Scottish Folk musician who sings both traditional songs and his own. I recommend albums like Farewell Sorrow and Spoils, if you love miserable folk & murder ballads like me.

O is for Orchestal Manoeuvres In The Dark

For Alphabands. Yes it's those lads from Liverpool who shook the world! OMD are a synthpop band from the 80s who managed to make incredibly catchy pop songs with synthesizers while still keeping a bit of cold Kraftwerkyness about them.

M is for Morrissey

It's Morrissey time for Alphabands. I didn't use much reference for this, it is just the young Morrissey as he looks in my mind.

Pencil & Watercolour.

L is for Lambchop

Yes it is my triumphant return to Alphabands! My L entry is for Lambchop.

Lambchop are one of my favourite bands and I've seen them live three times, each time Kurt Wagner performs sitting down which is appropriate for most of their songs, but in an up tempo number he rocks out in his chair as I have drawn here!

Pencil and watercolour in my sketchbook.

Fisherman Sketches

Some sketches & character design for a possible comic. I like the first one but maybe it’s too cutesy. I think I’ll have to wait for my hands to get better before I can attempt a whole strip.

Minicomic cover

The cover of my minicomic! It's a collection of comics with Luxury Cruise, Another Day In Hell and some "funnies". I've only printed a few copies but I fancied the idea of making a physical item.

Now to figure out a way to sell it online and see if any comic shops will take some.

B is for Bonnie Prince Billy

My B entry for Alphabands is Bonnie Prince Billy. Probably my favourite singer, he's definitely up there anyway.

Pen Ink & Watercolour.

A is for Arab Strap

My A drawing for Alphabands. Arab Strap were a filthily bleak duo from Scotland, worth a look if like me, you are a miserable bastard.

Pencil and Watercolour.
